The sayings of the Desert Fathers:
Abba Zeno said, `If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands towards God, he must pray with his whole heart for his enemies.
Through this action God will here everything that he asked.
Abba Isia said, `Nothing is so useful to the beginner as insults. The beginner who bears insults is like a tree that is watered ever day.`
Abba elias said, `Men turn their minds either to their sins, or to Jesus, or to men.
He also said, `If a spirit does not sing with the body, labour is in vain. Whoever loves tribulation will obtain joy and peace later on.`
Lastly for this morning.
Abba Theodore of Pheme said, `The man who remains standing when he repents, has not kept the commandments.`
