                                    Divine Freedom

Divine freedom
The world exists. But it began to exist. And that means: the world could have not existed. There is no necessity whatsoever for the existence of the world. Creaturely existence is not self-sufficient and is not independent. Creation by its very existence witnesses to and proclaims its creaturehood, it proclaims that it has been produced. But unexpectedly it is precisely in its proclaims that it has been produced. But unexpectedly it is precisely in its creaturehood and createdness that the stability and substantiality of the world is rooted.
God creates in perfect freedom. This proposition is framed with remarkable precision by the `subtle doctor` of the western Middle Ages, Duns Scotus: `The creation of things is executed by God not out of any neccessity, whether of essence or of knowledge or of will, but out of a sheer freedom which is not moved - much less constrained - by anything external.` In creation God is determined only by himself. God creates solely out of his goodness. the idea of the world has its basis not in the essence but in the will of God. The might and freedom of God must be define not only as the power to create and to produce but also as the absolute freedom not to create. God creates out of the absolute superabundance of his mercy and love.
                                                                                                FATHER GEORGE FLOROVSKY

Of course the world could have not existed, but of course if that was the case, then we would not exist to have awareness of such a fact. Yet we do exist. And if our prime aim is not to share in the love of God, then we will ever continue to miss the mark. Its very easy to hear the words, bless those that persecute you. Also if someone strikes you on one cheek then turn the other cheek also.
Yet to absorb these sentiments until they become part of our very foundation is a thing of real work.
We have to see the love of God in those who hate us or want to kill us, even if it may not be acknowledged yet by them. In Gods time things will come to pass and not our own, no matter how better we believe they would be if done as we think best.
We are in the moment. In a point in time where, yes we have a certain ability to look back and judge the present and its possible outcomes on whatever actions we decide with the invariables of the rest of the universe. God of course can see every potential outcome of our free will and would only want us to choose that which brings us into His arms!
For me, this is where Christianity and zen come into play. When I think, not my will but Thy will be done. This is the time for me not to make hard and fast decisions, but to be prayerful and then still the mind until an answer comes to me. Then of course I must test this to see if it a true answer or a false one, which came from my own ego!
One of the tests is to ask, `What would Jesus do?`

It is now quarter to five in the morning and so I shall wrap this up here, by putting on a bit more of my art and bid you fare well.

Love and blessings to all.
Brother Peter
